During Capcom’s most recent financial report, the company was asked whether or not it intends to create even more remakes similar to the way in which it is handling the development of the new Resident Evil 2 project. According to the publisher and developer, “Regarding remakes and re-releases of titles in our back catalog, we expect to explore these further with a variety of properties as a part of our strategy to utilize our library of IP.”
For those who have been out of the loop, this isn’t the first instance of Capcom expressing its desire to make use of its extensive back catalog of video games to re-release older titles to the current generation of gaming platforms. As it so happens, the company behind the Resident Evil 2 remake once stated several years ago that it intended to put a focus on making HD remasters of its established AAA games a priority.
While a lot of gamers will definitely see this as an exciting prospect, as the Resident Evil 2 remake could usher in a unique era of Capcom playing the revisionist with its classic titles in order to imbue them with new life, there are also skeptics who aren’t too keen on the idea. In fact, some have argued that the publisher and developer needs to focus more on creating new games instead of putting out remakes and remasters. Nevertheless, those very same people critical of Capcom could wind up praising them if the Resident Evil 2 remake manages to knock it out of the park.
Resident Evil 2 is set to release on January 25, 2019 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
