Since only one of the games listed is not a sequel, the “surprises” Capcom is talking about should be original titles. While I am very excited for Marvel vs Capcom 3 and Dead rising 2, riding off of a game’s initial success becomes old quickly. Once a developer dives too far into sequels they tend to loose that “WOW!” factor an original titles tends to bring. Another issue with this is that the developer makes it difficult to appeal to a market of gamers that is not their already built fan-base.
The best example of this is Marvel vs. Capcom 3, considering it has been 10 years since MvC2 has been released for the Dreamcast. Since that time a new generation of gamers has entered the fray. While anyone that doesn’t live under a rock will recognize characters like Spider-Man, Hulk, Ryu and etc., most likely the younger crowd has not experienced the true joy of the first two titles, excluding their recent re-releases on 360 and PS3. Playing a re-release is enjoyable but still isn’t the same as experiencing the true version in its time. Although releasing this many sequels pleases the already hardcore fan-base, it also runs the risk of excluding newcomers. Not introducing any new titles at E3 by far would not be a wise move.
While I am happy to see some of my favorites return, originality wouldn’t kill anyone. If you’re eager to know more on Capcom’s E3 lineup, don’t worry, we’ll be reporting live from E3 on these titles.
So how do you guys feel about Capcom’s E3 roster?
