Capcom United States Vice President of Strategic Planning and Business Development, Christian Svensson, believes that Marvel vs. Capcom 3 will outsell Street Fighter IV. In an interview with EventHubs, Svensson explained his position on the future performance of the game and their plans on marketing it.
With the massive demand and desire for Marvel vs. Capcom 3 now turned into unbridled anticipation, it’s a sound prediction that MvC3 will outsell Street Fighter IV. Fans of Capcom characters and fighting games will merge with fans of the Marvel Universe once again to produce big numbers for both companies and could potentially take over as the top fighting game in the world. The cast of characters grows all the time and the gameplay shown in various trailers continuously excites and amplifies the hype. The game is destined to be one of the best selling game (if not the top seller) of 2011.
Unlike Marvel vs. Capcom 2, which featured four attack buttons separated as two pairs of low and high-strength punches and kicks, Marvel vs. Capcom 3 uses a simplified, three-button control scheme which will invite in those new to the franchise to learn, play, and enjoy. It will also feature a ‘Simple Mode’ that will allow novice players to perform combos and special moves easily. The game features a single-player story mode that is more robust than its predecessors, with unique endings for each character. Marvel has stated that they plan, with Capcom, to include dialogue quips and mid-match events between each company’s characters that reference past Marvel Comic storylines.
Svensson went on to speculate about other crossovers:
Who knows what the future holds? The only thing that is certain is that Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds will be available in 2011 on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
