The Newly Improved ST-E3-RT
Canon Europe has announced the release of the Speedlite Transmitter ST-E3-RT (Ver.2). The compact radio transmitter is used to control other RT radio wireless enabled speedlites up to approximately 98.4 feet (30 meters) away.
Compatible speedlites include the Canon 600EX ii-RT, 600EX-RT, and 430EX iii-RT as well as the Yongnuo YN600EX-RT II and YN968EX-RT.

Radio wireless transmission and second-curtain synchronization allow the ST-E3-RT (Ver.2) to capture moving subjects in a natural way. This feature is offered as a new wireless option, granting the ability to shoot a range of different scenarios.
The transmitter also has an extended minimum micro flash output of 1/8192, which is perfect for photographers looking to capture scenes with a natural atmosphere.
Canon recommends that you use it with the Speedlite EL-1 for best results, writing that the pair “add beautifully subtle nuances of light without disrupting the atmosphere and ambient light reflected on set.”
If you prefer to adjust flash manually when you shoot, the ST-E3-RT (Ver.2) now offers a quicker, more convenient setup through support of FE memory. You now have the option to perform an initial shot in E-TTL mode, then switch the speedlites to manual flash for adjustments where needed (retaining the original E-TTL settings).
The remaining features of the updated transmitter more or less mirror that of its predecessor:
Control of up to five groups or 15 individual flashes Support for E-TTL II flash, manual flash, stroboscopic and auto external flash metering Eight types of custom functions, three types of personal functions Hot shoe contacts for information transmission and operation A dot matrix LCD panel and backlight controls Powered by two AA/LR6 batteries
Canon Makes Early Splash in 2021
Rumors of the Canon Speedlite Transmitter ST-E3-RT (Ver.2) have been circulating the internet since the beginning of February, around the same time Canon celebrated the production of its 150 millionth RF lens.
Even more recently, Canon released a new photo culling app for iOS.
If you currently use the original ST-E3-RT, Canon Europe says that you can send it to one of the listed Canon Service Centers. Your transmitter will then be upgraded to include the features and capabilities of newer version.
